New Picture Australia postcards

Picture Australia has twelve new, free postcards out on the streets. They include the Easybeats, Australian birds, historical scenes, Ferry the Frog, quintessential landscapes, a boxing kangaroo and more. Each postcard represents an agency that has contributed images to the service. Look out for them on Avant Card stands in cafes, galleries, theatres and community centres, or contact us for the entire set.
News from Campbelltown ...

The Campbelltown City Library launched their participation in the Picture Australia service yesterday with a local ceremony and addresses by the Campbelltown Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Director of the National Library.
The Campbelltown Library and the Campbelltown and Airds Historical Society collaborated to bring their combined online collection into the service. Around 6,000 images are currently available, with more to follow. Try a search on 'Campbelltown' for the history of the region in photographs.
The 'half a million' milestone

Museum Victoria comes aboard

Exciting news! Museum Victoria has joined Picture Australia with over 25,000 images relating to the Victorian era in Victoria. Three separate collections, 'Biggest Family Album,' 'Imagining Australia 1914-1918' and 'Sunshine Harvester Works' have been brought together in Picture Australia for ease of searching. Browse to your hearts content.
Picture Australia goes offshore

The National Library of New Zealand is the first international agency to join Picture Australia! The Library has made their collection of images relating to Australian life from the Timeframes database available to all Picture Australia users. Follow the Timeframes trail for a paddle in international pictorial waters.

The National Library of Australia conducted an online survey during June to test user satisfaction with the Picture Australia service. The results are being used to help further develop the service. Thanks to all who took the time to fill in the survey!
Picturing Canadian culture

Images Canada, the Canadian equivalent to Picture Australia was launched recently and it provides access to the over 65,000 images held by participating Canadian cultural institutions. Through Images Canada, you can find images of the people, places and events that collectively illustrate Canada's heritage. OZeCulture conference: getting it online, 13-14 June 2001

The Department of Communication, Technology and the Arts is hosting the OZeCulture conference: getting it online, in Melbourne on 13-14 June 2001. The conference will focus on opportunities created by the emergence of the Internet and digital media. It is aimed at cultural organisations with an interest in the arts and the Internet. Over 4,500 images of the people, places and events of the Lake Macquarie region, from the late 19th century to today, are now available through Picture Australia, thanks to the Lake Macquarie City Library, the first public library to join the service.

Nolan Gallery news

The Nolan Gallery makes its Foundation Collection available to all through Picture Australia. The Collection consists of 24 paintings by Sir Sidney Nolan, gifted to the nation in 1974. A search on 'Sidney Nolan' is well worth your while!
